Mardi Himal
The Mardi Himal trek is the Annapurna region’s "hidden gem"—a short, sharp, and spectacular ridge walk that gets you face-to-face with the mountains in record time. While other treks wind deep into river valleys, Mardi Himal stays high on a dramatic ridgeline, offering a constant, unobstructed front-row seat to the giants.
The Forest to the Clouds
The journey begins in the mossy, ancient rhododendron forests near Pokhara. For the first two days, you climb through a "cloud forest" that feels almost mystical, especially in spring when the trees are ablaze with red blooms. The trail is quieter and more intimate than the busy Annapurna Base Camp route nearby, trading wide stone steps for narrow, winding forest paths.
The Ridge Walk
The magic happens at Badal Danda (meaning "Cloud Hill"), where you finally break above the tree line. From here, the world opens up. You are walking along a narrow spine of the mountain with the earth falling away on both sides. To your left is the deep valley leading to Annapurna Base Camp; to your right is the Mardi Khola valley.
The star of the show is Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain). Because of the trek’s unique positioning, the sacred, unclimbed peak feels so close you could reach out and touch its jagged summit.
The Final Ascent
The trek culminates at Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m). Reaching the upper viewpoint at sunrise is a transformative experience: as the sun hits the Annapurna massif, the peaks of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre glow in a violent shade of gold. It is a steep, rocky final push, but it delivers a panoramic reward that usually takes weeks to find on other trails, all within a 5-to-7-day round trip.
