Packing right for a Nepal trek can make the difference between an incredible experience and a miserable one. Here is our complete guide to what you should bring.
Clothing & Layering System
- Base layer: 2-3 sets of merino wool or synthetic moisture-wicking underwear
- Mid layer: Fleece jacket or down jacket for insulation
- Outer layer: Waterproof and windproof jacket and trousers (Gore-Tex recommended)
- Trekking trousers: 2 pairs of lightweight, quick-drying trousers
- Gloves and hat: Warm gloves and a wool hat are essential above 3,000m
Footwear
- Trekking boots: Ankle-support boots with a waterproof membrane
- Sandals: To rest your feet at the teahouse in the evenings
- Wool socks: At least 4-5 pairs — wet socks are your worst enemy
- Gaiters: Useful in snow and rain
Gear & Backpack
- Day pack (20-30L): For daily essentials on the trail
- Sleeping bag: Rated to at least -10°C for higher altitude routes
- Trekking poles: Significantly reduce strain on your knees
- Headlamp: With spare batteries
- Sunglasses: UV protection is critical at altitude
Health & Safety
- Sunscreen SPF 50+
- Lip balm with sun protection
- Diamox (altitude sickness medication) — consult your doctor in advance
- Travel insurance covering helicopter evacuation
- Water purification tablets or filter
Documents & Money
- Passport and copies
- TIMS card and national park permit (we help you arrange these)
